New blueberry varieties well received

The two new high-chill blueberry varieties, MegasBlue and Titanium, have been well received by nurseries and trial companies since their introduction in Europe. Both varieties are marketed by Global Plant Genetics, an international company that manages the intellectual property of soft fruit, asparagus, and grape rootstocks.

These two varieties are the first to be marketed by Oregon-based Blueberry Farms and Nurseries, which manages its program in most locations through Global Plants Genetics.

Rupert Hargreaves, Director of Global Plant Genetics: “After monitoring these two varieties in the United States over the past three years, we are delighted to now be able to bring them to market worldwide. We are starting in Europe, where a number of test sites have been set up and three nurseries have been selected: Vivai Molari, Gatti, Plants365 & Schrijnwerkers. The market is looking for new high-chill varieties with better taste characteristics and higher yields.”

Jon Horton of Oregon Blueberry Farms and Nurseries: “Both varieties have been well received in the United States so far, and we are delighted that, together with Global Plant Genetics, we can now offer them to the European sector as well. We are also looking forward to rolling out these varieties worldwide in the near future.”
